i vote yes, but i tend to be a little bit comma-happy. sometimes it can technically go either way and those times i'm for a comma.

Hi... whether there is a comma in that situation depends on the policy of the publication. A lot of publications have dropped the comma before the conjunction in a simple series like "readers, copy editors and pedants."

My understanding is that there is some great cultural divide concerning the use of commas in lists. I was brought up with the idea that the penultimate item never receives a comma, and that seems to be the traditional English English rule, to which we down here in New Zealand have clung. The American way was to be far more profligate - an attitude which is having something of a showdown with the older way.
